Emotional Freedom Technique – EFT

Emotional Freedom Technique is one of the most easiest and profound healing techniques which has been discovered in recent studies. The concept is based on acupuncture therapy where a person taps on certain points on his body with his finger tips while recalling on a specific traumatic memory. When this is done, the person acknowledges the presence of that feeling which has been causing him mental as well as physical pain and therefore it is easier to release and be free of suffering.

This particular technique can be used for a wide array of aspects in life and eliminate any negative or pain causing pattern. It can also be used for improving any particular aspect of life and the possibilities are limitless. Researches have been going on in finding out the various possibilities of emotional freedom technique (EFT) and every time the scientists come up with new use for EFT. This technique has been very beneficial to patients suffering from phobias, depression, fear, anxiety, negative thoughts, panic, stress, tension, nervousness, insomnia etc.

It is said that every pain in the body is caused due to the blockage of flow of energy in the body. Due to this blockage the body has to go through the suffering caused by the diseases. EFT tries to clear these energy blocks by using a method of tapping on certain acupuncture points on the body with the finger tips. The procedure is quite simple to do and does not need any special kind of training to perform properly. In acupuncture therapy for every disorder there is a particular point on the body where needles are pricked, but in emotional freedom technique needles are not  used but rather the tips of one’s fingers are used as pressure points. The pressure points start from the head coming down to the lower arm and fingers.

The steps are laid down to get the most out of this technique

1. Write down on a piece of paper the degree of pain, suffering or craving on a scale of 1 to 10 for anything which you want to get relief from.

2. Start by finding and gently rubbing a point on your chest which is slightly softer than the other surrounding area and say the words

“Even though I have ( your problem here) I fully and completely accept myself”

for 3 times. Next you start with tapping the top of your head either with the finger tips of one hand or both hands. Do not worry much about precision as you will surely tap the correct points by default.

3. Begin with tapping the points from eyebrows leading down to the finger tips of the hand. Do it for both hands. Use only the core words and focus on your problem mentally when you start tapping from the eyebrows.

For example: if you crave chocolate, you can say “Chocolate craving” while tapping these points. Keep tapping at a slightly faster pace and say the core words 3 times.

The pressure points are as follows

Start of the eyebrow – The place where eyebrows meet the bridge of your nose.

Corner of the eye – Place beside your eyes where you can feel the skull.

Under the eye – Place in the center just below the eyes on the cheeks.

Under the nose
– In between your nose and your upper lip.

Under the mouth
– In between your chin and your lower lip.

Collar bone
– Where the bone forming an angle.

Under arm
– Place just below the arm pit in line with the first rib bone.

Finger tips
– Place just beside the nails. i:e the side of your fingers.

Karate Chop
– A point side of your hand by which you break something if you are a karate expert.

Gamut
- A point just behind the knuckles of ring and little finger.

4. Write down the degree of pain/unease/stress/craving or whatever you wanted relief from again on a scale of 1 to 10 just below the original one you had written. By doing this you can validate for yourself that what you did was worthwhile and it works. You will also start thinking of using it in other areas of your life which need amends or improvement.

Although it is one of the most profound and safe technique used by many people to get rid of their phobias and diseases they were suffering for years within hours, it is advisable to consult an expert before going for any new kind of treatment.
